City Noises

The lorikeets have set up residence in our front gum tree over the past few months. But they've been so high up I haven't really enjoyed them. Just their noise - they sure do make a noise. But I'm not complaining. Lorikeet cacophony is far superior to the usual orchestra of trucks outside our front door.

But today they re-located out back to polish off the last of the figs from the tree. I've shamefully left  most of the figs to the birds this year. But I reckon it's almost worth it to see the lorikeets. Aren't they beautiful?

  1. We often have them in next doors eucalypts, they are great aren't they - good that you could get close enough to photograph it, ours fly off at the merest hint of a camera lens.

  3. Oh ! What beautiful colours. You lucky thing.
The only semi-colourd birds we have in the garden are woodpeckers and blue tits. Nevertheless, they are all beautiful and delicate.

  5. I'm imagining the Dawn Chorus in your place... nothing gentle and delicate I imagine. But those Lorikeets are certainly more flamboyant than our monochrome Blackbirds and Magpies.

  7. The family and I recently went camping and it was a real pleasure to be woken by a chorus sung by Lorikeets, Galahs, Magpies, and Kookaburras. Beets the beep, beep, beep from my bed side alarm.

  8. I love Rainbow Lorikeets, we have them visit us too. They usually turn up in pairs and we jokingly call them Laurie and Keates. They come for our red eucalypt flowers and our banksia flowers. They do make a hell of a noise but they are worth it. We had adults bring their babies to visit us recently.

I am sure they love your figs...
